I want to share something I learned from Dr. Sean (who I’ve met in real life. He’s really good at reading people). He says he can predict, with almost scary accuracy, who’s going to stick with their health plan… and who isn’t.
Here is his breakdown:
- Miss one day of your protocol? You’ve got about an 80% chance of bouncing back.
- Miss two days? That drops to 50/50. Yes, only 50% will jump back into the protocol
- Miss three days? Less than 3% of people ever restart according to Dr Sean. Now the weight comes back, the joints start aching and we can justify our behavior like it is the god’s honest truth – when in reality, we just fell back into old habits.
Ouch.
And when I think about it… he’s right. Most of us don’t fail because of one bad meal or one skipped day. We fail because of what happens next. The story we tell ourselves:
- “Well, I already screwed up.”
- “I’ll start again Monday.”
- “What’s one more day?”
- “Hey, I didn’t react too badly. I can eat this now.”
Before you know it, three days slip by. Then three weeks. And suddenly you’re back at square one.
I had a client who disappeared completely when she fell off track. No check-ins, no updates, just silence as old habits flooded back in and unraveled months of progress. When she finally reached out, she was so unwell she said, “I’ll do whatever you tell me.”
And honestly, I hear that line a lot.
But here’s the thing: the people who succeed aren’t perfect. They just don’t let themselves drift for more than 24 hours.
I have another client that had so much frustration one day that she binged 1 meal, but the next morning she saw her glucose and ketone reading, and felt the inflammation in her body. She immediately sent me her readings, told me what happened and why. She was back on track right then. She said “it felt good at the time because I had HAD it, but it feels awful this morning. I never want to feel like this again.” She is now at her goal weight and feeling fabulous.
Here’s the secret:
- Bad meal? Next meal is back on track. It doesn’t have to be a bad meal, either. Say, you’re at your father’s birthday party and you have a piece of pie that only Aunt Helen can make. Enjoy the pie and the party, but get right back on track.
- Missed a therapy? Pick it up the next day. No excuses.
- Forgot your supplements? Restart immediately. Just don’t double up.
- Don’t punish yourself: don’t double up on cardio, or start fasting or extra supplements. No negative self talk either.
Just a calm and normal “this is how I do things now” manner.
No drama. No “starting over Monday.” Just momentum.
3 Steps to Get Back on Track (Fast)
- Kill the Drama
Don’t tell yourself a story. One bad day is not failure. It is life. Move on. - Reset in the Next 24 Hours
Don’t wait for Monday. Don’t wait for “when things calm down.” Your very next meal, your very next dose, your very next step is the restart. - Anchor One Non-Negotiable
Pick a simple “can’t-miss” action (morning supplement, daily walk, evening cool shower). Even when everything else goes sideways, do this one thing. It keeps your momentum alive. For me I start with morning sunrise. It starts my day on the right foot.
And that’s the real secret. Momentum beats perfection every single time. You don’t need to be flawless. You just need to not let things slide past that 24-hour mark.
So if you fall off the wagon (and you will because you’re human), remember Dr. Sean’s rule: reset fast. Don’t make it a big deal. Just get right back on track.
That’s how healing actually happens.
PS: Credit to Dr. Sean for putting this into words so clearly. I’ve seen it play out with my clients, too, but he nailed the pattern. I’ve linked his IG below if you’d like to follow him.
