A fall on the ice – Patty’s Story

My friend Patty had a bad accident early 2023 and her recovery has been incredible. She focused on mindset, her faith and nutrition. Patty knew that if you give the body what it needs, it can heal itself. I linked what I could of her story to the products and studies. None of these links are affiliate.
I asked her to share it here with you. In her words. . .

I fell on black ice on February 3 and broke the neck of my femur in 4 pieces. I had surgery where the surgeon placed a rod from my hip to my knee. After three days in the hospital, I went to a rehab center for three weeks. I am at 14 weeks of recovery and I can do a set of squats, a kettlebell snatch and a kettle bell swing all with a five pound kettle bell. I can also work my upper body with an 8 pound dumbbell. The day before my accident, I could work out with a 17 pound kettlebell and did balance exercises because at my age (72), I wanted to be proactive about falling. Within a few days of my accident, I greatly increased the organ supplements I had been taking because I knew my body needed extra nutrients. My foremost supplement was Bovine Trachea Cartilage. which has proved wound healing properties as well as autoimmune support properties. I took 12 capsules of 750 mg each as that dosage was the amount Dr John Prudden used in his research in the 90’s. Additionally, I take the following organ supplements (all from Ancestral Supplements): Living Bone; Living Collagen; Fish Eggs ( for vitamins A, D, and K); Liver; Kidney; Beef Organs; Bone Marrow; and a product by Perque called Repair Guard. Repair Guard contains Quercitin, Tumeric, and Pomegranate powder and when taken in large quantities is equivalent to a NSAID (like Motrin) without any side effects. It was important to me to not take pain medication and at 3 weeks post surgery I stopped my pain medication. Also the Repair Guard aids in healing and inflammation.

I also take adrenal and thyroid organs. I started those a month ago because my fatigue was intense.

I started the kidney supplement a month out from surgery. When I woke up from surgery, I had thus whooshing sound in my ears. When I did my PT, the sound got worse. I also experienced difficulties with my normal urination so I added the kidney and within a few days I experienced a huge improvement in both issues. The kidney contains the B vitamins plus selenium and helps with histamine issues.

Additionally, I follow a high protein diet. I generally eat 40 grams of protein at each meal. I’m the early stages of my recovery my husband had to prepare all my meals. To make it easy for him I often ate Wallaby ( brand) yogurt and Equip ( brand) protein powder. That is 40 grams of protein but not a lot of work. I often had that twice a day and the shrimp and a sweet potato for dinner.

In addition to this, I put tons of magnesium oil on my body because I knew that stress depletes magnesium and between the accident, surgery, and rehab stay- that was major stress.

I also dwelt on Bible verses that focused on the favor of God; His healing; and His blessings.

I did my PT and got lots of rest. My chiropractor told me that rest was the best medicine so even when I wasn’t tired, I would take a nap.

My healing is way ahead of what would be expected. I can walk a little without my cane and am gradually regaining the strength I had before this incident. This particular injury is a serious one and has a very slim chance of total recovery because of it, but I have been blessed with continual healing and recovery

The type of fracture I had is called a subtrochanteric fracture.

Also:  I have longstanding periodontitis. The week before my accident I saw the dentist and one of my pockets had gotten worse. After the fall I was unable to do my usual home dental care for a very long time. It was difficult to stand at the sink and floss, Water pic, etc. I went to the dentist last week and my pocket had improved significantly. She told me it was the first time she ever had a patient do less home care and gave improved teeth. I owe it to the Bovine Trachea Cartilage
