subtitle: I’m Gonna Live Forever (or until they take down the billboard)
A few years ago I saw a challenge on the Bulletproof Instagram page called Be The Proof. The challenge was about consistency and doing something everyday to Be The Proof of a healthy lifestyle. Well, that is pretty much my entire life since I started on this path trying to find a way to get well. All I did was add that hashtag #betheproof to my posts, and I did not think a thing about it.
Several weeks later I saw a message and it was from a head hunter/talent agency scout saying they needed to talk to me. I was skeptical at first but did write back. They gentleman chatted with me for a bit, then I heard nothing until a photographer contacted me to set up a time for photos. She told me at the photoshoot that the talent agency scout said to her “She’s REAL!” and was actually surprised to find a real person on Instagram. Makes me wonder what else he saw, but I took it as a compliment.
After the photoshoot I heard nothing else for weeks again when a friend posted on Facebook “Hey, Linda. Is that YOU on the billboard on the highway?”
WHAT!?!?
It really happened!
I drove over and oh my word. . .there I was 14 feet high and 48 feet wide doing pushups on a billboard on one of the main arteries in town.
It was surreal.
It was an honor.
It was like “yeah, you did this. You created this new life!” I nodded to myself. Lots of hard work, and here it is for everyone to see.
There was an article on the Bulletproof Blog that went along with all of this and part of the Be The Proof campaign. I tried to find it on the blog so I could link it, but it is no longer there. I will summarize the article below, everything in italics is from the article:
When I was sick with chronic migraines, it was others’ stories that showed me there was hope. The doctors could not help me, but the biohacking community was filled with people who had healed from various things.
I’ve been a Bulletproof customer since 2014. I have the Bulletproof Vibe which I bought when I still to stick to workout. I could stand or squat on the Vibe to get my exercise on my good days. I am a coffee drinker, and also use brain octane oil daily. It was the brain octane oil that let me know I was going to be okay. (side note: this is 100% true. From the first time I used it I felt something change in my head. Ketones are known to reduce inflammation and MCT oil bypasses normal digestion and goes directly to the liver, so I was actually getting a taste of what it felt like to be in ketosis) The first time I consumed it, I could feel a difference. and I still can all these years later.
The article goes on to tell of other products I use and how it wasn’t just one product, but the actual Bulletproof Diet that got me out of migraine hell and back into the land of the living. The diet created by Dave Asprey is a cyclical ketogenic diet, and I followed the diet as written in the book and never missed a day. When I ate that way I felt better, and I was getting well. It took a while for my body and brain to heal, but I did get well. I get teary when I think about it. I have been 100% migraine free since 2017 and shortly after that last migraine left I decided I needed to do something to get my fitness level back. So I signed up for a Spartan Race. It was considered a huge goal for an older woman who had been sedentary for 4 years when I was too sick to function. Didn’t matter. I may fail, but I was going to fail by giving it my best. I did hire a coach to help me get back into shape, and worked with my acupuncturist to keep me pain free. AND I did it, I did it well, and I’m still going strong.
Honestly, I’m healthier now than I have ever been, and I am so grateful. I didn’t appreciate health before my Bulletproof life. Thankfully, I no longer worry or have anxiety and am to act as a calm leader instead of adding to the drama. Now, I am able to help others. The No.1 reason I do what I do now is because I want to be available to my family and friends. I want to be able to show up 100%. Remember that you don’t need to do it alone. It’s always nice to have a fitness buddy! Little things here and there add up to big things over time.
